Learn To Make A Website In 30 Minutes – Think It’s Impossible?

It’s no joke. You can truly learn to make a website in 30 minutes… maybe even less than that.

Not only can anyone make a website, but you can start for FREE.

Working on a laptop

I found a site a couple months ago that lets you create 2 websites for free. It’s a community of online business owners called Wealthy Affiliate aimed at helping each other create successful online businesses.

You can learn everything there from creating your first website to how to make money off of it. I thought that was the most intriguing part.

The Options

Two ways we’ll talk about making a website in less than 30 minutes:

  1. Go to Wealthy Affiliate and set up a free website
  2. Set one up yourself

Wealthy Affiliate

With the first option, Wealthy Affiliate, you’re going to learn to make a website from the very beginning. You’ll learn how to think of a niche, choose a domain, and build your website. All foundational elements to making ANY website.

Of course you are still setting this up yourself, however you will be walked through the process with video tutorials every step of the way.

In my opinion this route is the easiest possible way to make a website and you’ll get to learn a lot more useful information along the way, such as how to get people to read it.

Do It Yourself

The second option is still fairly easy however you won’t be surrounded by video tutorials and lesson plans. Don’t worry though, if you choose this route, I’ve got you covered.

In this post I’m going to show you how to make a website by yourself.

Learn to Make a Website

In order to create your website you’re going to need 3 things:

  1. A interest/niche idea for your website
  2. A domain name
  3. A hosting service

Step One: Choose Your Interest/ Niche

A niche is nothing more than what your website is going to be about. Maybe you’re interested in health and want to create a website based on workouts for people over 6’5. Maybe you have a thing for kitchen appliances and want to make a website where you review and recommend kitchen items.

That’s all a niche is.

If you don’t start with deciding on a niche first, you might end up with a website for dirt bikes called suziesonlinebakery.com, know what I mean? Start with your interest first before you choose a domain.

This might be hard initially but I promise you that with time, in ANY niche, you will be able to find keywords and be able to write articles that are going to generate traffic to your website.

Don’t worry about making everything perfect. The key is to start. You’ll be learning a ton over the next few months and it’s going to be a blast! Wait to you see your first money come in.

Task: What are you interested in? Give yourself no more than 30 minutes to pick a niche.

Step Two: Choose Your Domain Name

There are two main approaches to choosing a domain name. It can be either:

  1. Keyword-based
  2. Brand-based

Keyword-based

The first option involves using popular search terms for your niche IN your website name.

Example: www.wewillbuyyourhouse702.com

With this option you will likely get better search results in Google however it may not always be brandable. If you aren’t sure what I mean by this, think of it like this.

Which one is more brandable: Coca-Cola? or, sugarycarbonateddrink.com?

Brand-based

Brand-based names are just short, awesome names that are easy to remember. For example: Xerox, Netflix, and Amazon. All GREAT brand names.

None of these have any searchable keywords in their names and are great for branding.

When picking a brand-based name, simply choose your brand name and add .com to the end of it. If you want to know if any of your domain options are taken or not, go to this link and type in your domain idea.

If you see Red it’s taken, Green means it’s AVAILABLE, and Blue means you have to buy it.

Step Three: Get Hosting

Every single website that exists needs and uses web hosting. I personally recommend using Bluehost. They’re affordable and anytime I’ve broken my own website or something went wrong they were there to help.

They also offer 1-click WordPress installation. Trust me, you’ll want that.

I am going to briefly explain how to set up your Bluehost account here, but if you want a detailed, step-by-step guide to setting up your website with Bluehost, go to this post.

First, go to Bluehost and sign up for their hosting service. I recommend getting the plus plan because you can make unlimited websites and once you learn about online business, you’ll want to make more than one website.

You pay up front for 3 years of hosting, so this plan runs around $215… But you’ll be set for 3 years. Plenty of time for you to learn to make money online.

After you get set up with hosting, login to your new Bluehost account and then find the Install WordPress button on the homepage:

You’ll then be prompted to set up your login information for WordPress. Once you’re set up, login to WordPress and you should see a screen similar to the one below:

I call that bar on the left the WordPress panel.

Technically, you now have a website!

Customize

All that’s left need now in order to customize your website is to choose a theme!

Click Appearance –> Themes –> Add New Theme from the left side of the WordPress panel.

From here, pick a theme you like and you’re all set!

If you want to preview what your website will look like, hover over your website name at the top left of your WordPress panel and then click, Visit Site.

Looks good don’t it? 🙂

Additions

You’ll want to make sure you add a couple plugins to back up your website and add security. All of details for doing that are explained in this post.

Don’t forget about the Wealthy Affiliate option. They have a few more resources than I do to teach you how to make money online but you can always reach out to me if you need help.

Find me on social media! Let’s connect.
